The social conditions in regards to our own supply chain are of great importance for our company. The often disastrous working conditions in low cost countries like India and Bangladesh and not least the break-down of the textile company Rana Plaza (Bangladesh) in 2013 has shown clearly that there is an urgent need for action on international level.
On the initiative of federal minister for international development, Dr. Gerd Müller, representatives of economy, textile and clothing industry, trade unions and civil society have united under the “union of sustainable textiles” on October, 16, 2014. The main target of the union is to pool expert knowledge of its members in order to establish social and ecological improvements along the supply chain and to implement international standards.
From the start UTT is a member of this union and contributes actively to a gradual improvement of the working conditions in the textile industry.
